National Celebration of Responsible Pet Ownership Month

February 2011.
This will be a month long celebration, with all proceeds going to MDBA Pacers [Preventing Animal Cruelty in Emergency Response Situations], which will finish off with the awards presentation evening.

It will incorporate a variety of competitions and activities centred around the theme of responsible pet ownership, Australia wide. This will give those businesses that would like to show case their services, products and profiles to Australian Pet Owners ample opportunities for involvement, sponsorship and advertising.

What is MDBA PACERS

MDBA Pacers is an Australia wide professional charitable organization committed to preventing animal cruelty to domestic animals (mainly dogs, cats and horses) when they are in emergency situations as a result of their owners hardship.

What we do.

MDBA Pacers has rescue, counselling support and recovery services, and we work to lessen the impact of disasters and hardship on animals through our educational outreach programs.

Many of the animals which come to MDBA Pacers are homeless and requiring a new family to live with, Our shelters (located in NSW & Qld so far) and foster carers act as rescue, recovery and adoption centres and holding facilities for when their owners need time to put their lives back in order whether that be because of financial hardship, family emergency, illness or hospitalisation or as a result of a natural disaster. MDBA Pacers principal activity is in saving those animals, which are in dire circumstances, but we also have programs available to help pet owners prepare for possible hardship or disaster situations.

Our Work

The demand for assistance from pet owners in so many varied situations has been absolutely huge, including hundreds of requests for help from those affected by the Victorian bushfires and Queensland Floods in 2009.

MDBA Pacers have assisted with crates, veterinary supplies, animal enclosures, fencing materials and several tonne of dog & cat foods.

Many animals from domestic violence situations, ill health, old age or unexpected unemployment have been fostered into approved foster homes allowing their owners to get back on their feet and begin rebuilding their lives and having their animals rejoin them.

MDBA Pacers is currently supplying feed to 80 cats and dogs who are still in their owners care but who are currently struggling to make ends meet and require temporary assistance to care for their pets. Without our help these animals could no longer live with their owners

MDBA Pacers has also been able to assist a number of reputable rescue organizations with food donations for the animals in their care. Some of our work has also been to assist those with too many animals by helping find new homes for some of their animals and helping clean up their homes and kennels before they have their animals seized.
This is a very small sample of assistance given. And demand for our services has seen a steady increase.

MDBA Pacers Buddy System

The establishment of a buddy system support network to ensure pets have a safety net if their owners are unable to care for them due to personal hardship or in unexpected emergency situations has proven very successful and is growing every day. Pet owners across Australia are encouraged to join this safety network to work together to be sure no pet or their owners are any more vulnerable to unexpected events than they need to be.

How you can help

MDBA Pacers would like to hear from anyone who would like to join us and be part of our team.
There are opportunities for you to help a little or a lot and to share and enjoy social events and fundraising activities but also to be part of a dynamic charity group devoted to making the lives of companion animals and their owners more protected from the fallout of natural and personal disasters.
